A River Runs Through It
Image information
          Description

By request: How I modeled the Truckee River. I followed much of the methods used by Pelle Soeborg in his \"Mountain to Desert\" book. It\'s a great book!
I used Arizona Rock & Mineral\'s River Bottom Mix and Woodland Scenics Talus - Medium & Fine - Buff.
The most important design element is configuration. How would water flow? Why is it meandering? Is it being forced to go around an outcropping of rocks? Behind the rocks, does a sandbar form? Water will undercut the streambed on the outside of a curve and leave a sand beach along the inside curve.
Zoom in on a real river as viewed by Google Earth. You can learn a lot about water dynamics.
