I'm just wondering how they thought to reverse the train with this installation...

Simple,

Turn off the engines and have 100 People of the Great Soviet Union push it backwards for the glory of Republic. That's just my guess.

One way would have been to mount engines on a swivel-- Not done on either jet train so I would suspect they had auxiliary power, or assist engines as these were test units and never pressed into regular service. Then again, if these did prove sucessful, they could have turntables at either end, for single car trains and a reversing loop for multi car consists.

Having been around Soviet built Aircraft, I would say that anyone riding that thing would be stone deaf. I can't even imagine the kerosene fumes that would be sucked inside either.I am guessing those B-36 pod engines would do the same. If you wanna see a B-36. check out the movie Strategic Air command with Jimmy Stewart.

Kelly,

Have you ever seen that gigantic Soviet cargo aircraft, I cannot remember the aircraft type, but it's bigger than a C-5. When they designed it, they forgot to put rollers on the floor so pallets cannot be loaded as easily as on the C-5. That aircraft must be loaded manually.
We can load two rows of 18 pallets into the plane totaling 36 pallets. Normally, there are only 32 pallets because the two position on the forward and aft ramps are not used. We can also setup the aircraft with pallets just down the centerline of aircraft, but that is when we do airdrops.

Now back to the subject of trains.

This one? I seen the one that is like the C-5 but with conventional, not a T tail and 4 engines. Still big.

Yes, I think that's it. It was in the evening and we were parked on the tarmac. I never noticed the tail rudders. I think we landed in the Ukraine with some humanitarian supplies and they didn't even have a "K" loader so the military brought out the "troops" and the down loaded our aircraft by hand which took several hours. One of the our crew members was asked if he had any "Levis" and when he said yes, they offered him $70-80 for a pair of them, WOW.

Fred,

Lionel had "standard" gauge before "O" gauge. Do you know how much larger it was and whether it was a large as G acale?

I'm not sure about "Standard" someone with more knowledge than I can pipe up here. My first train was a MARXS- tin type.. it Ran on 027 track.
Lionel had 027, O, and then Super O. All 3 rail and all of thier rolling stock could run on the same track. Sort of like MTH today with different degrees of detail.
