This is for Kin and others wondering about the GOLD Warbonnet. I painted an F-7 in gold livery- actually it was a PA and I wasn't going to paint an AZL brass, gold.

Fred, On a ship like the one in your picture. How do the people on board, fight the fire?

Huge ships today sail with a crew of around 20 members--the largest containerships in the world The "Emma Maersk class" ( Bigger than an aircraft carrier) have a crew of about 13. Each crew member has to go to firefighting school and drills are held on a weekly basis. It's good training but NOTHING like the REAL thing. I was on a ship that caught fire half way between California and Hawaii. We were lucky as we had two enginerooms and were able to contain the fire in the stbd engine room which was totally destroyed. We limped into Honolulu under our own power. We were unusual as thr ship had separate engingerooms and twin screw. Most ships today have one propellor and a huge engine space. There are fire surpression systems in the Galley, Smoke detectors in the cargo holds, and the living spaces most likely has a sprinkler system of some sort. Enginroom fires and below deck hold fires would closed up and flooded with CO2. All personel must be out of the space as the CO2 not only kills the fire but crew too. A deck fire is fought with water or foam or other agents. I could go on but I don't like to type.

Last night on chat we talked about unique water towers. I got a BIG pencil-1/2" in diameter in Hawaii with a BIG plastic Pineapple ( 1 1/2" dia ) where the eraser would be. I thought and might still make a water tower out of it.

Stony posted a picture of one that looked like a ear of corn.

Thanks Kelly- I remember having that set. And there was a similar missile set with Atlas, Bomarc, Matadore, Snark, Honest John, Lacrosse, Hawk, Regulus 1, and more.
