I used a product available from Arizona Rock called asphalt. I think it worked quite well.

The tarmac looks very real, a bit dark so it's like you had a bit of a rainy spell, but now things are clearing...

It does need some weathering. I have tried washes and they just seem to not work that great. Next step is to get out the air brush to see if that helps.
