I think I see a reference to the CCRR in this thread ( www.zcentralstation.com/~zcentral/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=18&id=777&Itemid=212 ); is there a track plan & photos of it somewhere?

Yes I have seen video of that competition and there have been others in places like Yellow Knife and Inuvik. MY super cub has stall fences on wing tips dropped leading wing edge on inboard half of wing leading edge and extra 5 degrees of flap. The other plane I used was a turbo Cessna 206 with complete Robertson STOL kit big low pressure tires including nose wheel and it could go just about anywhere with 6 people and 400 pounds of gear. Super cub was the opener get in and clear a strip for the 206. Then baring in all we needed to create a strip that we could get a Piper twin into with safaris guests. In the Canadian North used the Super cub to haul in and out prospectors searching for minerals.

Thanks John. First layout or modelling I ever did. Good memories.

Jim, The layout was moveable and sometimes I would take it on deck or in the cockpit for better photo lighting. Always drew a crowd of onlookers. No gimballing. This was strictly marina fun. Jim

Still planning for structures and scenicing -- been having too much fun running!

A typical session moves each to each of the tracks/locations.

Found one car's bolster pin to be a bit tight which caused it to derail through the switches between the 2 loops.

The 4-6-2 need a bit of speed to climb the helix which is a bit steeper than the other side.

The blue tape simulates a mountain with tunnel; will likely reroute the siding just a bit.

Plan a tunnel to the lake lower left side.

Years ago I bought for PC/DOS called Design Your Own Railroad; though not very good as CAD type one thing it did really well was let you run trains on your layout plan -- a screen shot of my planning back then:
