My coffee table project was created by jrb
Hi Folks!

Have had some Z stuff for a while; just put the recently put the layout into the table.

Noticed that my new GP35 is really slow!

Both against my F-7 and Marklin Pacific; Using 9VDC via Ztrack Snail Speed Controller .

Here’s some video:

New vs. Old --

New vs. Marklin --

Info from Rob of www.ztrackcenter.com/ :

The F7s is a 1980s design. The GP35 is a 2005 design. A lot has changed in those 25 years! The biggest difference is the coreless motor the GP35 uses. It is nice and quiet. Very different from the motor the F7 uses.

All ideas and comments welcome!

Jim

PS: my G too.

Jim, Yes, things have changed a bit from the old Marklin 'speeder' locos. As far as the geep goes, those locos singlely weren't the fastest runner. MTL is pretty close to prototypical on this loco. I like the layout. How sharp are those curves? Any scenery plans? Jim

I see you noticed my boat. I lived aboard for 19 years. I also sailed around the world for six of those years. 42 countries. Had my first Z layout on that boat. Photos are buried in the archives somewhere. My boat was a Beneteau 51. Those were the days. Jim

Wow Jim......I'll bet you really miss her sometimes. I still have that picture you sent me of you sitting there in your boat working on your first layout.........way back when.

Jim,

IIRC the small are 8510s 145mm/5.75"; the larger 8520s 195/7.6875.

Started collecting Z w/MTL Great Northern train set circa 2000.

Do you have a photo of you layout in the boat?

Jim

Hi Loren, How are you guys doing? Yes, I miss the boat terribly 'sometimes.' When we left it was time to move on. Living on land has been a pleasant experience as Gayle and I grow older. Layouts are bigger, stomach too, and life is good. I don't remember the photo however??? Jim

Jim, I do have eleven photos in the Archives of the layout on the boat. If I remember correctly it was 26"x36". I built a teak box around it and attached it to a bulkhead. Maybe this link will work. If not go to Media and click on Archive the layout is about 4 pages in. Even before you get to the fourth page you will see at least 3 other layouts I've done. Look for CCRR or Central California RR.

Jim PS Just checked the link does work. Original CCRR

Wow -- very nice!

Was going to ask if it was gimballed for running (or beating) while under way; but, one of the photos look like you have out in the cockpit.

Can we download photos?

Thats a really nice ARF that you have there. I used to build an fly RC A/C myself. I have a few
pictures of some of my planes on my gallery. If you are interested. I used to build for other
people also. But I cant do it now because of my health. I'm glad that you still can. :)

I flew the super cub for real in the bush of Eastern Africa and on the Arctic tundra of the Canadian North used big cut down DC3 tires with low air pressure so you land in the roughest of places. Nice model looked like the real thing in landing and take off mode abut my cubs were not suitable to any aerobatics.

cheers garth
