Turntable problem. was created by Dampflok
Hi All.

Six days away from an exhibition and I have turntable problems.

When I started using the turntable for the first time in ages today, I noted that it fed the tracks radiating from it. However it has stopped doing that and it is extremely annoying as I was hoping to be able to use it to shed locos etc. during the exhibition. I have checked continuity and, apart from one, there is no link between the rails on the turntable and the rails feeding off it.

Fortunately I can still bring locos in one one entry road and I can probably bypass an isolating track on another but repairing the problem would be the ideal option. Any ideas anyone?

All the best,
Chris.

Further to my last, I have found that if I lift the turntable it will make contact so, at least I can get the locos off under power but it's not a nice solution.

Hi Rowan. :o)

Whoops; I tend to think Z scale = Marklin. (Slaps wrist.)

It's a Marklin 8998.

All the best from 'sunny' Skye,
Chris.

Hi Rowan.

What database would that be, Rowan? Sounds as if it might be useful.

Best wishes,
Chris.

OK, problem solved. I realised that I could get at the contacts by removing one of the dummy segments on the outer ring. By gently raising each contact in turn all was well except for one contact that had suffered terminal damage before I got the turntable. I will just have to live with that.

I have build my own turntable (on my German layout), quite some time ago.
Underneath the turntable I have installed a pcb disk, which is divided in two electrical halves. they do have the same polarity as the tracks towards the turntable (I do have some restrictions in entering the turntable). The two rails on the turntable are connected to old relay contacts, which turn along with the turntable. The relay contacts supply track power from the two disk halves to the rails on the turn table. Simple but effective.
Maybe it helps....

Regards,
Frank:)

Hi Rowan.

Thanks for that. Mind you, as far as I could see, they aren't particularly hot on Z are they.

All the best,
Chris.

PS I have everything wired up at last and all but one switches are working!
