Does anyone know of where to purchase replacement motors for these units?
Thanks. Ed

Ed, I dont think there are replacement motors. Some people had sucess with Motorman, but I hear that people have problems contacting him.

Ask Rob from Ztrack. He should be able to point you in the right direction.

Ed,
We typically direct folks to MicroMo Electronics. They sell the 8mm Faulhauber motos which are used in AZL locomotives. You will have to transfer the worm gears from your old motor to the new one. Their website is:
www.micromo.com/?gclid=CJyF27OdrpsCFdFL5QodTEP6Ag
I will also check with AZL about the availability of motors. I don't have any in stock at this time.

Well, I think I have narrowed it down to, its not actually that the motor is bad. I believe that I have one of the very first runs of the SD70's. The ones that I have heard everyone complain about that really don't run all that fast. I have removed the inner shaft guide on both wormgears. This did not seem to help much. Other than that, is there anything else that can be done to make these units run faster? Is there different gearing in the trucks? Could that be the reason for a slower top speed?
Thanks for any help with this,
Ed

Hello Ed,
Jens Wimmel from Switzerland has a review about the SD70 and the speed problem on his website . Unfortunately it's only in German, but if you use the translation tool from Google you will get a relatively good translation.
I hope this helps.

Hi Uwe,
Great site. Thanks for the help.
John Mui contacted me offline and described what could be my possible problem. He suggusted that the problem was with the front bushing. I tried his suggestion and instantly improved the performance of the engine.
