Friends, this has been very helpful. I had Alinda, chief landscaper read this thread and I think she got good ideas aplenty. So thank you. I think a good next step would be for me to post some shots here of our most recent work and take specific suggestions.
thanks again.........Ondrej

Now, here is a very interesting photo in this regard. The setting and the elevated situation of the train in extremely similar to our layout, as you will see.

Kelley- After all these years I just painted my first figure- Man I have a whole lot more respect for your tiny projects. And to top it all off, I can recognize all those wee people!

I am sure there are others that can paint better than I can.. I am SO afraid of painting a car. I have been trying to paint a Marklin caboose silver for the longest time and it just doesn't look right. I have that UP ABA unit, and I really don't want UP.. I even got some passenger cars. They are pretty but just not my railroad. Right now I am dead broke. If and when I get a new job, I think I will find somebody who will paint over those F units to a grey. The decals are going to be a bear. Could one scan a set of N decals and reduce them? would I have to apply them to a clear film like an overhead sheet? I wish I could write microscale and ask them to just print the things in Z scale..but I don't need 200 of them.

Are you also on the Z-Friends-Europe board? Unfortunately the Englisch and French version of that website doesn't work at the moment. But the board website is also working in English. There's a member (his nick is "gunibert") who makes decals. Currently there's a thread "MAERSK DecalĀ“s" where he shows and offers decals for different container. He also does perfect paint jobs on all kind of rolling stock.

GreetingZ, HilZen,

Uwe
