These days I believe Marklin caters more to the collector than anything else.

Not just with the fanatasy models but have you checked their own online shop? Either things are 'not in stock' or 'novelty, not yet produced'
For example they have, in their own online shop, 2 Z scale locomotives available right now. Two, that's it.
Even in their 1 gauge they have more (well, all of 3) available.
Not to mention what they offer in their own shop is not even their whole catalogue.

Don't these people want to sell me their product? What is the point of having an online shop if you're not going to sell through it?

OK, I admit, I'm a bit miffed at them... I loved them when I had my HO railroad when I was 12 and I fell in love with Z the first time I saw it a year later but when I look at them now I just sigh and shake my head.

If you want wartime locomotives, you would be better off painting them yourselves. Should be enough pictures out there. Be cool to get the ones with the writing on the tenders. These guys might be talked into making the decals. www.kuswa.de

That tender is classic!

I do think (and note opinion only) Marklin is trying to get back on track with prototypes. The Ludmilla release was a good attempt, but fell short due to the quality issues (mechanical, and finish - weathering and load color). I hope Marklin keeps pushing releases based on reality. We may see a change in Marklin next year. The Insider 2012 class 01 is being touted as having improved drivers, valve gears, and brake shoes. This would be a first on a Marklin steam locomotive. No photos are available yet, but this is the kind of details many of us have been waiting for from Marklin.

Personally, I hope to see more weathered rolling stock, especially era V and VI. They do it in HO, we need more in Z!

I also hope we see the GG1 again. It is a great locomotive and needs to be back in the line up.

But it was released as an MHI item the following year after the set was released. I have one of the steam locos, but not both. I am actually thinking of running the train on my layout with 2x class 151 electrics. This is prototypical to how these heavy ore trains are run today.

Rob,
I have steam engine 88972, what is the engine that was issued as an MHI item?
I guess I need to check your site to see what I an add behind my 88972.
