just install decoder Uhlenbrock 73400 Minidecode was created by hmseyn
HI, I just install the UH 73400 decoder in a steamer, run well and after several loops the loco stop, buzzz and them run again. Did this a few time and them stop for ever...
Now the loco buzz and looks like does not have enough power to run the motor. I did check the motor of the loco is run perfectly. The decoder is install on the Marklin Z mogul steamer.
Any help will be appreciating.
Thank you
Henri

Hi Henri, its the decoder. It sences a overload and shuts down. If you lift if off the track, it resetss the decoder and runs again. I dont think there is anything you can do. Uhlebrok doesnt work well with Marklins. Try a CT DCX75z or DCX74z, and use the Uhlebrok on a MTL GP35. The coreless can motor is less likely to cause a shutdown.

Henri, I am not sure. I think the DCX75N is for n scale engines. Use the DCX74Z if you can get it. I get my decoders from Oli.

The N decoders will not fit under the cab roof but will fit in the tender.
The problem with the Märklin is the permanent motors draw a lot more current than the coreless motors (Falhauber) in the MTL GPs and AZL products. Some of the Märklin motors can draw up to at least 0.3 to even 0.5A. This is above the current ratings for some decoders. I don't have all the specs here at work but many will not do more that 0.5A motor current (NOT the higher Stall Current). Digitrax DZ125 WILL do 1A (in open air) but Lenz will only do 0.5A and they did not run well in one of my Märklin's with high motor current. Each manufacturer determines the current differently so some will shut down easier.
Also, Lenz defaults BEMF (motor load compensation) to ON which can do really crazy things to small currents, light motor loads (e.g Z scale) and when connected in consists.
Uhlenbrock uses very non-standard, (non-NMRA CV's and especially values) so many get confused in the US when programming (plus manuals have poorly translated English and only 2 pages). There values are derived from the Selectrix or Digital lines.
