Digitrax DZ123MO board mounted LEDs was created by jlundy46
I am working on a Searails ALCO RS shell and have it mounted on a MTL GP9 chassis using the Digitrax DZ123MO decoder with the tiny board mounted LEDs. I am using fiber optic tubing for the lights. I have painted the inside of the shell black but the LEDs still bleed light in some places. I was wondering if one could paint the top of the LEDS black to decrease the bleeding, especially in the cab area?

Thanks,
John

As for painting the insides for light blead. Would a very thin piece of black tape CA'd to the top accomplish the same thing? I've done it on my layout to Iowa buildings. Cheers, Jim CCRR:unsure:

Hi Jim,
The clearances are very tight, so tape might not work. I'll try painting the top of the LED and see what happens. I'll post a couple of pictures.

Thanks,
John

John, try couple coats of paint until it blocks out the light.

Just today I removed the surface mount LED's and replaced them with T1 LED's. What a major improvement. I will posted pictures later.

If you use the analog board or a decoder with the large LEDs, you have to remove alot of the spacers in the front and back of the shell. That's why I went for the board mounted small LEDs.
