New ZCS - comments and suggestions was created by SJ-BAZ-man
Stony and John,

Starting to have some new looks. I like the Galleria Folder view.
--> Question: can you add subfolders with in a folder? For example:
Shows:
Great Train Expo:
San Jose
Pleasanton
etc.
In the User folder, I now only see the pix Title, not the thumbnail. But I like the list view too but many images have the same Title :) Both option views would be nice.

Glad to see you keep this going ! I could be over here more if it was less difficult to use. I have also had problems, like many in reading forums longer than one page, where we only see the really old page and cannot navigate to the first page.

Like our Govenator, I'll be back !

Need photo posting easier and faster.

Better search capabilities for articles, posts and photos.

Advertiser section that companies pay for to advertise their Z products.

Just some initial thoughts.

I have a suggestion!!! Has to do with the Home Page photo gallery.

Instead of Every New photo being displayed on the Home Page, perhaps an option, while uploading 4 or 6 photos, that ONLY ONE of them can be posted to the Home Page.

Please don't get me wrong but when one person uploads more than one photo, usually one photo is most descriptive than the rest. When, if, I upload photos here, I want them to go directly into my photo gallery folders. I prefer not to have all of them go on display. For this very reason of all photos hitting the Home Page first I seldom, if any(SD70ACe shell) will upload to ZCS. I use the RailImages in Trainboard and then post links to my photos in message posts.

I hate dropping into ZCS and find someone has uploaded what seems to be 50 photos of his new layout that shows many angles of track, plywood, and plaster OR many photos of long shots that even Zoom won't bring out the detail. Why 50??? I know that 50 is an exaggeration, but come on. If we had the Option to have ONE (1) photo, in a mass upload, be posted to the Home Page while all the rest go straight into our photo gallery folder(the one posted to Home page could have a link to the rest of the upload)I think the Home Page photo gallery would be alot better represented.

Now for those that would upload 50 photos, one at a time, to bypass this "Option" could, WOULD be reprimanded to not do it again or else!!!! I myself have been put on restriction in the Yahoo Zscale group two or three times in the past. Why not do something like that here. Just like Mad Max in Thunderdome!!! (was on TV last night) Break the Deal, Spin the Wheel. In this case the wheel always points to restricted access, unless you are a repeat offender. Read only, no posting of anything..... or Termination!!!!!

Just my one suggestion!!! Hope I didn't hurt anyones feelings with my emotional comment.

Hobo Tim

(Ooops, I might find myself on restriction after I click on the "Submit" button!)

Thanks for the kudos and suggestions Jeff and John.

Ok, Jeff. Yes the user did and will have the ability to create structured folders/categories. It is just that when one creates a category "Shows", then go back and create the subcategory. Then go and upload your photo(s) into the subcategory. And as a step further, then you create "San Jose 2010". Then the following year you create "San Jose 2011", and follow that structure.

The Tree View is just that for now, no image views from that app... yet. But, could look into it further to see what can be done.

John stated. "Need photo posting easier and faster. Better search capabilities for articles, posts and photos." You are very right. Within the next week we are planning on migrating to a new server with double the space, more monthly bandwidth, and more dedicated RAM. Stony and I have a huge task ahead of us to work on all aspects as ZCS continously grows.

John, the thought of a sponsors section was planned for. We are still working out the details, but we have several priorities that will come first. And I can say one thing is that the structure for sponsors are going to be VERY reasonable.

What about my suggestion? I wanted to suggest this one photo option for the hOme Page gallery for quite a long time now. Just never crossed my mind when I was here. Not sure Brad would have had time to consider it either. Now under new management I wanted to make the suggestion.

Tim... Now why would I moderate Captain America? You are like a permanent fixture that you don't want to get rid of (or is it can't?). Take a look at our headers of our replies, and to the right are the times of the reply. I started my reply before you when it was just John and Jeff's ideas I was responding. But I am in the middle of many projects and let my response lapse. When I did finish and post, then I noticed your posting. I did not mean to ignore your suggestions, but it came out that way.

And since you posted two replies on the same subject, this seems very important to you. As an IT guy, I do understand the diskspace management of repetitive data. I cannot really stop anyone from uploading pictures to a obsessive point. But, like you mentioned, I can moderate the member and perform the uploads myself.

The best option I can think of currently is working with the members and the use of 'reasonable control'. Ok, a member finishes a beautiful 2' x 5' layout... Fine, take two or three photos of the overall layout and upload them to ZCS. THEN in a week or 10 days upload two or three more photos of a centerpiece/object from the layout. Are there more centerpieces to the layout? Fine wait again before sending some photos. This 'reasonable control' creates a continued interest in the modelers layout, for a much longer time span, than what the original avalanche of photos would have produced.

I will gladly take your thoughts and see what we can come up with. And since this thread is open for suggestions. Does anyone else have more ideas?

The green tags indicating new message(s) in a given thread are a most-welcome added feature. Before, threads with new messages were starred, but then users had to rely on memory as to which specific messages had already been read - dangerous, in my case! B)

Can we expect the end of the Z points ?
I find it always a little bit (to be polite) childish,
it remembered me holy pictures by priest at leaving
the church  but with 7 of age I appreciated :)

Yes John, I have an idea(s). Regarding Tim’s suggestion of limiting the fact that every new photo appears on the front page. I have a similar suggestion. Insist that people put their photos into a directory structure. Then when a new photo is submitted to a directory, the newest photo from That directory is displayed on the front page while, just like with the photos, the oldest directory displayed drops off the list.

Your idea that members show restraint when uploading, limiting their uploads to two or three photos at a time is fraught with problems. First and foremost is, for one reason or another, the person might never finish uploading the rest of the images leaving us hanging. Of course they may never finish the project anyway, but I certainly wouldn’t wish for them to limit what they upload, as far as the steps they go through. Second, if the images are uploaded as a project, another person can see the whole project from front to back and 1. Decide if they wish to even start the project, and 2. Work at their own pace. I am not suggesting people wait to upload their images until a project is complete, however there IS another alternative (see above paragraph).

Lastly, it is up to you or a subordinate to moderate the photos section making sure people follow the instructions to categorize their uploads into a directory structure. If they don’t, then you or ? should move them to a directory. If they continue then either the instructions are too difficult to understand or they could be considered a “ditz” and need to be restrained forcibly. John, don’t be afraid to throw your might around. If you don’t have the time to moderate the photos, have someone else you trust attack the job with vigor.

John- it may be my computer- but I find I must sign in more frequently
When going to MY PICTURES, I find a screen that offers several groupings. Before all my pictures were displayed. Same on MSN and Firefox.
I understand the Welcome ribbon will be taken down soon. But the moving section to me is distracting- could it be stationary?
You have fixed the vertical number system for multiple page posts- Thank you.
The heavy hand and with vigor monitoring could be a distractor. Most of the members try to follow the rules. Then behind the scenes- those that have forgot or blatently disregard policy can be dealt with.
There are several new features to ZCS.. The events calendar is great-- could there be some instructions posted on each page to educate us on it's use, and posting. Instructions for dummies with computers
It may be my computer again-- and Stony is working on it-- but instructions for uploading fotos would be helpful. Especially for new members.
The header looks very nice-- will this be changed at different intervals.. just wondering- no big thing.
I think MEMBERS should be above classified ads.
Are the blogs active?? I know there was a time Facebook was displayed...
Also wondering what the number at the bottom represents.. the daily tally- whatever-
Since the point system may be changed or done away with- is there any thought given to a ZCS supporter- like TB?
And I do like the idea of being able to post multiple pictures, without all appearing on home page. Looking forward to the library feature going active. This could be a great resource
Thanks for the long hours and work on ZCS,
Fred
PS- information on new members not available

The deep blue fading to white background is fine, generally, with one exception: next to the "Logout" button, there is a "Hi [Username]" greeting. That in itself is fine, but it is in a medium gray, and on a teal/aqua-blue menu bar background, it's nearly illegible.

The new ZCS must be set up pretty well if that's the worst thing I can complain about! :-)
