Thanks Jim,
Just inquiring but, I appreciate the answer back and kudos to you as well as the grand pubah over this wonderful site. Y'all have brought me back to a wonderful pastime and I hope to get pictures up someday but, in a moving transition now and have to rethink the space that I'll have work with, hoping to have more but, will probably have the same amount once settled. Once again thank you to all the people who keep this site up and well documented.

Greetings to everyone who reads this!!!
I have a question for all who are tech savy in the workings of computers and servers!
First of all, yesterday I rescued my laptop from all of harms way by installing the recovery disks that are supplied with your PC's upon purchase. This recovery wiped out the entire hard drive and reset the whole system as if it were just purchased. Don't worry, all my gigabytes of work are safe on an external hard drive. Anyways, this total recovery has made my laptop as fast as it was when I purchased it way back in 2003.
Question is, why does it take so long for my computer, in its very fast state, to connect to Z Central Stations website?????
I can understand it when my laptop was 90%+ full to capacity and operating slower than frozen snot racing downhill, but why does ZCS still load slowly??????
Once again, this is a question for those among us who are tech savy in the workings of computers and servers. All others please refrain from replying!!!
Thank You!
Hobo Tim

Hi Tim, I use Internet Explorer and I just logged on to ZCS five times. The average time from hitting the title in 'Favorites' to the ZCS Home Page was 4.1 seconds. Seems like a reasonable start up to me. You didn't mention a time. On the other hand my desk top computer is only a year old and is pretty powerful and speedy. I've had laptops forever and they were always much slower than a comparable desktop. Plus, a computer from 2003, is a couple of "dog years" behind in technology. Sometimes I notice when I go through the sequence of Z sites, ZCS-TB-ZYahoo, the ZYahoo takes 12-15 seconds to load. If I go there first they all load in about 4 seconds. Go figure. This probably isn't helping, but this is my take. Cheers, Jim CCRR:unsure:

Hello Tim,
I viewed the page source code for this web site and what I figure is taking a bit of time to load the page the initial time (with a cleared cache) is due to the many java scripts being used as well as the extensive number of images which must be loaded.
Of course, if the page was reloaded from the cache, it would load much quicker, most times, depending on what has been updated on the page from the first time. I would need to study the code if Jeff would like me too, to find ways of speeding it up. I think some java scripts could be moved to other pages to speed up the loading process a bit.
I build web pages using css and java script and I know the many difficulties involved. On my system a Dell Inspiron 1720 with a 2.4 Ghz duo-core and 2GB ram, it loads using Firefox in about 2.4 seconds.
Hope that helps some.
