BNSF "Z" decals. was created by ModelWarships
I want to renumber some BNSF GP-38's. Does anyone make numbers to match the BNSF numbers?

You can print them yourself with an inkjet printer and Testor's decal kit.

How well does the Testor's decal kit work? Is the film really thick? Can you use Micro Sol and Micro Set on them? Do they hold up well when you spray a layer or two of flat coat on top of them? Sorry for all the questions but this sounds very interesting.

Thanks,

I was hoping that there were some already done.

Jon,

The thickness depends on how many layers of Decal Bonder you spray on top. Inkjet ink is water-soluble and needs to be coated/sealed before using. Once coated, it behaves like any other decal. You can use Micro-Sol and Micro-Set without any problems and spray flat coat on top. This is a very inexpensive way to do decals and you get what you pay for but it works well if all you need is numbers and/or letters. You can't print white but they do offer white decal paper.

I hope this helps,

If all you want is numbers, microscale has sheets of numbers. Don't know what size you need for BNSF, but there may be a sheet that will work. A more time consuming method would be to look at their BNSF N and HO scale decals. There may be numerals you can use that are meant for a different function in the larger scales. I will warn you that my train store doesn't like me when I ask them to pull a half dozen decal sheets, pull out my metal scale and finding only one I want to buy.

It may come to that. I already have a large stock of N scale decals for Z scale Burlington Northern projects. Guess I need to collect BNSF ones too. I was hoping that another BNSF modeler who had already done the hard work would chime in.
