This is really sad news. I hope the company has insurance and cash flow to rebuild. Too many model train companies would not be able to recover from this. I also have to feel for those employees who may be out of work for some time to come.

An update letter pulled from another Yahoo group.
Dear all,
As you may have heard we have experienced a fire here at Woodland Scenics
and there is good news and bad news. The good news is that no one was hurt
during the fire or evacuation process. The bad news is that it took out a
couple of our manufacturing buildings. However, and fortunately, there is
more good news than bad.
We encompass multiple buildings that are spread out all over the town of
Linn Creek. We only lost two of those buildings and those two contained just
a small portion of our manufacturing facilities. Our shipping department,
warehouse and corporate offices were spared any damage, as were most of our
manufacturing buildings, so it is business as usual.
Thanks for all your concerns.
Respectfully,

Well, this is good news I guess. Hope everything gets back to normal. Went to my LHS today and sure enought about a 2% price hike was being aded to the WS area! Not such good news there. Jim

I've got a new 7'x 8' layout planned so I went to my LHS today and bought them out of a few colors of the Fine Turf I seem to use a lot of. I wonder how many others did the same?

On one of the other Yahoo forums came this update per a phone conversation with Woodland Scenics.
"What I was told that they figured out they only lost about 7%
of their manufacturing capacity so it will have little effect on
them. Another thing to mention is that 97% of what they sell
they manufacture right there in town. They had seven buildings
lost two. They had long since scattered their operations around
town so as to prevent the possibility of having a fire that would
burn them out completely."

It’s always a shame when a small business has a setback such as this, but the loss in manufacturing capacity they mentioned (7%) doesn’t add up. Losing 2 of 7 buildings is a loss of 28.57%. Since companies very seldom leave buildings unused, this would have to mean that the buildings lost were used more for storage than manufacture. Perhaps a few more questions could be answered. Such as; what was stored in the buildings lost? Since it’s been stated earlier that the loss will not affect manufacture, does it involve product loss that might affect store shelves soon? Might we need to worry about running out of some certain WS product soon?

Joe, What ever was lost we may never know. My LHS however raised all WS prices about 2%. Nice! Jim
