Don't you mean a "dirt and rust wash"? ;)

I'm thinking the guy that just sold to custom-painted NS on feeBay had good timing. If he had waited another week, I'm thinking he wouldn't get the price that he did.

Steve, Steve, you gotta get with da program. Doit is beautiful. That's all I see around Medford.......that and a whole bunch of graffiti.

When I finally get around to painting rolling stock to resemble the local stuff, that's all you're going to see.

Clean means the cars haven't earned their fair share of revenue yet.

Think grunge !!

Okay Loren
So what you are trying to tell me is that i have to get down and dirty with my rolling stock. If thats what they are suppose to be, why arent they dirty when we buy them. I hope they are under warrenty so i can ship them all back to you so you can make them nice and dirty.
Sorry, just kidding around. No, I look forward to making them dirty as you call it. I understand that to make the whole scene true to life they do need to get dirty. Up to this point, I have only been collecting engines and rolling stock and building models and scrachbuilding untill the time comes when i can start a real layout.
The sad thing is, I have been a woodworker all my life and i have all the major equipment to build almost anything. But the health problems i am having has robbed me of the ability to build my layout. I hope by spring i can finally start to build at least a small layout so i can try out the new skills I have learn from the people i have had the honor to meet, thru chat, here.
So Loren, i plan to get own and dirty but i still like the looks of nice new railcars:)

Ok Steve, let's meet about half way. Truth be known, I see clean and dirty mixed together.

Not trying to sway the jury, but I'd guess the majority of cars either have graffiti or some dirt that is readily noticeable.

Since this is a hobby, we can each say about our own layouts, "hey, this is mine and if you don't like it, go play in your own back yard." Of course I don't personally know any Z scalers who would ever be that rude and obnoxious. Of course, it is ok to think those thoughts.......just keep them to yourself.;)

I hope you can begin that layout soon. Any sort of age related situation tends to slow us down or at least make it more difficult to do what we'd like to do. Goes for injuries and handicaps too. Maybe I have all three?:S

If you look at the MTL Mid January releases, they now have a bunch of GP35's & GP9's made dirty at the factory. Somebody may have spent part of the holidays in the paint booth?

Something I'd like to see is MTL do different road numbers from the clean set.

in calgary,, they have the finest paint booths for cars and train locos,,, its very rre to see a dirty old train in canada. the only beat up units are the private shunters like lefarge cement, they have 4 old units running around here,, and an old beat up black thing that moves cars up to places near us. other than that, every loco is cleaned before going on with their load here. and anything dirty n old gets painted here, its big business here in calgary. and the car painting facility always has its 6 spurs full of rusty hulks awaiting to be repainted. finest paint shop in canada is right here!!! canada mike
