Alaska locos on the way? was created by drummersteve
Hello Everyone-
Does anyone know if a new Alaska loco will be produced to join the Alaska passenger cars rolling out soon?
Thanks,
Steve Williams

Steve, are Shirley Horn and Buck Hill friends of yours? Being a drummer who loves jazz, I have to ask?

Hi Terry,
I am told that MTL will put out a ARR Geep 35 to go with the passenger cars. I can't confirm, but that is rumor. ARR only had two road numbers with the GP35...2501 and 2502.
We'll have to wait and see.

Too bad Mt doesn't do an Alaska F-7. I like the Nscale set. Pretty paint sceme.

Isn't MT coming out with their version of an E8 next year? Or was that just conjecture, I thought that was their reasoning for canceling the F7, can't see them producing passenger cars without a loco to go with them eventually. Especially, since the SD40 is a 6 axle loco, I can see them making a body to fit over that chassis. Please, someone correct me if they know something different.

MTL didn't cancel the F7, they are fast running out of shells. The mold is shot.
The E 8 and 9 are under development at this time.. Don't know the release date.

MTL doesn't plan on a new F7 shell mold as far as I know. Very expensive to make.
Who knows, maybe they will discover some hidden shells laying around?

Thank you for the update Loren. I didn't think I was dreaming but, it is nice to know that the F7 will still be with us. I want some Southern or DL&W if you can pass my recommendations. Anywho, still can't wait for the SD-40.

As far as I know (and according to this website: www.alaskarails.org/glance/complete-roster.html ), ARR didn't run any SD40-2 (there has been only test runs with a rented CN SD40), and they operated only a pair of E9A between 1981 and 1987 (#2401 and 2402).
On the opposite they operated only 3 GP35s (#2500, 2501, 2502) from 1965 to 2000, and a 4th one (#2503) until 1976 when it was wrecked. So even if these numbers are scarse, they're greater (and for a longer era) than those of the E9s.... As no release date other than 2010 has been spoken about for the E9s and the ARR passenger cars are due for next summer, I bet for an ARR GP35 in the next months.
But it's only my opinion.
