these power units david,, exactly how small are they,, and is ngineering the only place to buy them? i love the stuff ngineering is putting out,, its unbelievable just how small they ve made their chips!! but i do find them expensive in some areas, especially leds. kingbright.com has excellent leds prices,,i can buy sets of the smallest leds for 44 cents each!! compared to a few buks each ngineering is selling them for. i can also buy any led size from the tip of a needle to 60cm wide!! and the more you buy the cheaper it becomes!!

i just bought into another bunch of 3mm by 2.2mm leds,,, 50 of every color, and never came close to 100 dollars american. im just wondering if the sell these voltage regulaters as well,, they do sound alot easyier than the resister way,,, add a dial to it, and you can adjust it for even better control!! canada mike

The current regulator chips are quite small, about the size of a conventional PNP transistor. Here's an image of one installed inside a building; it's the fuzzy black blob hanging off the top left side of the PC board (I'll get around to taking a clearer shot at some point)--

I imagine you can get them from most any large electronics source--Mouser, DigiKey, etc.--but I haven't gone hunting for them yet. I don't mind paying Ngineering extra for some things, because I'm paying for the convenience of their having done the homework for me. When I get to the point that I need dozens, then I'll find another source.

yes,, price wise kingbrite wins hands down. for less than a cup of coffee, you can get 500 leds, cant lose on that. but the stuff on ngineering is even way ahead of them in a few things. like the 20 Ma capaciter,, you can load 30 leds on this unit,, throw on 47 amps of power, and the thing will light them all at exactly 20 Ma,, that amazing!!! never saw anything like it in all my wanderings in the electronic books. i gave up buying powerpocks, now i just buy plug in units from kingbrite,, 9 volt for track, and 12 to 18 volt units for all my animation n lights. 14 adapters later,, and i ve got a nice layout!! canada mike

Not yet. Haven't reached the point of needing bunches of them, but I imagine I will at some point. Meanwhile, I'm still soldering leads to 0402s (yes, still--I'll hopefully be done soon).
