Bummer Tim.
Those deer would have looked great, crated up in their little shipping containers; being lifted under your Mi-Jacks!
Next time.

 I want to see the "MOCK up!"
I was also thinking how much fun it would be to see that deer stretched over your MOW truck's hood, going down the tracks.
Hmmm, now I have to buy those deer so I could send you one.

I didn't know these deer were so rare. I picked up a built layout last year and transplanted a couple to my traveling display layout:

I better keep an eye on them so they don't "walk away"!

I wonder if you can wire him up such that any attempt to pick him up will be a shocking experience for the wrangler :)

OK..I wrote Noch an email asking if they would reissue the deer..this is what I got...
Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email and the interest towards Z scale products. Due to the very low demand for Z scale products in the past, we were compelled to remove these items from our range. Maybe we will be able to produce new Z scale products in the future if the demand is growing again. Sorry for not being in a position to give you any better news at the moment.

Best regards

Too bad Kelley. This is to be expected from most 'big' companies. Cheers, Jim CCRR:(

Having deer in the forest, priceless.

My Wife found my deer in a button collection of kids buttons in a dress and fabric shop. We just removed the button loop from the side of the animal and did a bit of cleanup work with a file on the side of the animals and we know have a herd of deer. Not bad for 5.00 for 8 pieces.

Got to think outside the box in Z-land

Kelley,

Kudos for following through and asking for them to continue a needed product. Unfortunately, that is not what the Z community was hoping for. I know a few months ago I sent off an email to Make My Model, and have not even received a response.

Kelly, thanks for pursuing this with Noch.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I understand that Make My Model isn't producing anything at this time. A friend had talked with one of the partners around the holidays and from what I understand, the partnership has been dissolved and the rapid prototyping equipment used to make the models was sold. I'd still like to get some more of their products too, so if I have the wrong info, please correct me.

I guess I am guilty of really hijacking the thread (sorry Mr Smith!) I talked to the Noch people in Dortmund today and kind of got the hairy eyeball and short NO. It is to be expected in the middle of these model shows. People have no nerves.
Now for the hopeful news...I talked also to the lady that made my elk (its in the mail!!) and she actually looked up what white tailed deer were and did some more research. She sounded like it MIGHT happen when I asked for a "deer family".
Yes they will be more expensive, but still, its a another step in getting Z stuff made.
When I walked away from the Noch people I said, "well if you don't want our money, we'll find somebody who will", yes, I was nasty as they were, and it sounds even nastier in German.

No need to apologize--it's all good. Regarding Noch, I have to take their side. They did, after all, invest in making and selling Z scale deer, so they are in a good position to judge what will make them a profit or not. As modelers, we have a microscopic view of the market as a whole, whereas they have a macroscopic view, and should have a good handle on what sells. It's sad they got a little snippy about it, but in the end the point is the same: it's not worth their while to pursue Z scale. They need to tend to their bottom line, so who are we to insist what they should make?

Well Dave,
If they don't want to spend any money making a few bucks, and even though the deer belong to them, then they should just tell folks "do what you want, we have no interest in the product anymore."

If they truly don't want to make deer, then why should they care if someone else takes their product and does something with it? Of course as so often goes, once they see someone actually making a profit from it, they might get all twitterpaited and have a coronary......

You've heard of the dog in the manger story?......the dog doesn't eat hay, but stands in the corner barking to scare the cow away from the hay that it needs to eat to live.

We can take those deer and modify them enough, maybe even break their legs or reconstruct them somehow and come up basically with a new product.

I'm willing to take my deer herd and "genetically" alter them in my Jekyll and Hyde laboratory. Ooooohhh haaaaaa haaaaa haaaa.

To tell you the truth, I think its all those marketing and consulting people that contributed to driving all those companies in the ground. Everybody thinks Z is dead or dying, because,? Who are they asking? The big toy/hobby stores? The big M has the same old stuff sitting on the shelves. Nothing new or different.
People are getting their stuff off the internet these days. And I don't think the big companies realize that Z has evolved from the suitcase cute phase to big major layout phase either. Some do. I like Kibri because they sent people to pure Z events, and they come up with new Z stuff. But, they can't make everything.
I would not be mad at Noch, IF, they never had the molds to begin with. IF that's what costs the most, the making of the molds, then shame on them. They reissued some of their cars, and used the exact same advertising and pictures from back then. (hence them showing some models that they wont produce anymore) If its production cost, why not send the molds to China like everyone else?
Anyway fine..Maybe someone will take up the reins and make some new deer. Then we could all be winners.

Why should Noch care if someone else takes their deer? Because they own the product. It's their right to do what they choose to do with it. It's not our right to do what we want with it, from the standpoint of profiting from it.

This is called plagiarism. Otherwise known as theft.

We may not like what they do (or not do) with their property, but that is their choice. We can speculate until the cows come home as to the whys and wherefores of what they do. They do not owe us an explanation. Nor do they owe us the product. They do not owe us the time of day if we ask. We can make assumptions about what they "ought" to do with their product, but at the end of the day, we don't know squat about what's involved in their production process, so all we're doing is wasting bandwidth.

Why am I so adamant about this? Because it is exactly the same as having a book or an article or a photograph reproduced by someone else without permission. Intellectual property is the same no matter what form it takes. Would anyone here on the forum condone lifting passages from a book and republishing it as their own? Well, think about it: Noch's deer are no different from a book.

There's far, far too much theft of intellectual property in the world as it is. And all too often people defend plagiarism because "everyone else does it." There's no way to stop others from doing it, but using that as an excuse to do it yourself is only making a bad situation worse.

I sincerely hope there is no more talk about stealing intellectual property here.

Hi,
if I understood it right, you need some animals (deers). Maybe you try creativ-modellbau-spurz.npage.de/ -and there [Zoo Tierpark] [Tiere Gehege] Currently they have no deers but if you ask them to create something I understood that they will help you.
Kind regards
Peter
