stone water tower.

While in my CB&Q group, somebody posted a video of Western Springs Illinois. In the background was this pretty cool water tower, that was made of stone. This thing is very typical of old water towers all over Germany, and I was surprised to see one in the USA. Here is a link to the tower.

Kelley, Many German immigrants arrived in America in the 1800's. They tended to drift to the midwest and places like Pennsylvania because it reminded them of home. Also the Irish had pretty much sewn up most jobs including police and fireman jobs by 1900 in East Coast cities. So I'm guessing this tower was built by an immigrant group who wanted something of the 'old country' around them. Jim

Checking the history, it looks like Anglo sounding names, but, the Germans and Italians were the master stone craftsmen running around. A lot of their work was probably in vogue and copied at least.
