Three European Barges in Z Scale was created by Pete Nolan
Self propelled barge traffic up and down the Rhine is among the heaviest in the world. These three barges are on the larger size of the range. The models have a one-piece cast resin hull that shows the reinforcing ribs for the holds, precision-cut styrene superstructure, crass railings, and the masts, captain's skiff, and other deck details to make convincing small scale replicas for river or harbor scenes.
The Big Rhine Barge operates on Class V waterways and measures 95 m x 11.4 m x 2.7 m in height. On the model this translates to 45.4 cm x 5.4 cm x 4.2 cm in height, or 17.9 inches x 2.125 inches x 1.65 inches. It has five holds of about 5.8 cm each. The prototype is rated for 2160 tonnes, or about 2380 American tons.

The prototype is rated for 1378 tonnes, or about 1519mAmerican tons.
The D.E.K. (Dortmund-Ems-Canal) operates on Class II or III waterways and measures 60 m x 8.2 m x 2.5 m in height. On the model this translates to27.5 cm x 8.2 cm x 2.5 cm, or 10.8 inches x 3.23 inches x 1 inch.. It has three holds of about 5.8 cm each. The prototype is rated for 968 tonnes, or about 1067 American tons.
