N6b caboose was created by Pennsy
Some photos of the prototype of my new PRR N6b caboose. This model will be produced in a very limited edition of only 10 models ... a "collector" !
- The model is hand made in thin etched nickel-silver.
- The trucks (with metal wheels) are "GH" product (not MTL) and has the good design.
- The couplers are "GH" models, not MTL. They are at the good scale and can match MTL couplers.

More informations : N6b caboose

For information : all the N5b cabooses will be now fitted with "GH" trucks and "GH" coupler

Yes, I now have a good collection of cabooses. The next one (I hope for end of 2012) will also be a "great" model : UP CA4 (with very interesting trucks !)

Gerard,

A UP CA4 caboose would be a great addition to Z scale!

My new truck for the PRR cabooses (N5 and N6)

"GH" truck on the left (N6 caboose) / "MTL" truck on the right (N5 caboose)

My new coupler : at the right scale / fully metal

"GH" coupler on the left versus "MTL" coupler on the right / my coupler is at the good "Z" scale - the MTL coupler is too large for "Z" scale (but good for "N" scale )

"Gerard, does the coupler uncouple automatically"

With a magnet.
They doesn't uncouple when the wagons are pulled, even if you stop / they can uncouple only when you "pull" and after push (it's due to the hooks design). Sorry, I can't explain more ... my english is too bad.
I'm working to an improvement : I 'll use the pivot axle as magnet uncoupling (a steel rod with a long tail). If this works, the steel tail will be back and less visible.

For my layout, I built my own magnets. I use door's latches magnets. I place 2 rectangular magnets side by side, under the tracks, perfectly centered in the axle of the track. I had a lot of old doors latches not used, so it's free for me and it work very well.
