Cleaning and Oiling Motors

Cleaning and Oiling Motors was created by Beverly56
I have the great Z-scale.org's article on Reviving Marklin Locomotives where it states that Labelle 108 oil is really the only oil to use for Z scale motors. However, Woodland Scenics Ultra Light Oil is the only oil available locally. Chris has the Marklin 8188 taken apart and I'd like him to clean the motor and oil it properly while he's at it. Would the WS Ultra Light Oil be okay to use? It has a fine tipped applicator, though I haven't seen it to know if it's small enough for Z scale.

TIA :)

I'm suggesting to mail order the Labelle 108 oil. I'm not aware of any substitution even close in quality and consistency. My opinion is based on real experience. In the past five years I've modified and tuned up at least 300 locomotive chassis.

I'm with Lajos on this Labelle 108. Most other oils will thicken up over time and then the recleaning process is magnified. Check hobby shops in Calgary. Someone will have it. Cheers, Jim CCRR:)
