Layout Update - August 2009 was created by ztrack
I have been getting quite a few requests for updated photos of my layout. It has been some time. Yikes... actually too long! The following are a few photos of the expansion area, layout and finished areas.

Look over the expansion area towards the finished part of the layout

The first aisle as you walk into the layout

New peninsula

Two looks at the quarry, small hamlet, and intermodal yard. This is next to aisle two.

The passenger station now sports current DB locos and rolling stock

The left corner with an ICE III running through it.

The large fright yard.

Rob, This is great. I've never seen much more that one or two photos of small sections. I like the expansion. This should provide much inspiration to Z Scalers. Cheers, Jim CCRR:)

I was wondering what brand flex track you are using and what code?
keep up the great work

Thanks all! And yes, everyone needs a bigger layout :)

Actually, and I am sure this will surprise a lot of you, but the layout is almost entirely Marklin sectional track. The broad curves on the peninsula is Peco flex. It is the only flex track on the layout.

Years ago, I self challenged myself to create a large layout with sectional track to show what could be done. The idea is that anyone can create such a layout. It has been a lot of fun. Some days, I just work on the layout, mixing and matching track sections to make it work. that is how I developed the new yard on the inside aisle. I am finding it is very organic feeling with curves and movement around the terrain. I am definitely having fun!

I am surprised
I love the looks of the layout. I dont blame you for doing it that way because i know what a pain in the neck flex can be. I wouldnt have quessed it was sectional

That's great, Rob. similar approach that Alinda and I have been taking...except not as successful, lots of trial and error w/what looks realistic etc. but yeah, I agree this track is good to work w/.

Rob, although I only have one of three sections laid out, it also is all sectional track, except for the long straight runs where I used flex track to save some money. The layout is the first picture in my Gallery.

Rob,

Do you get Marklin Magazine? In issue #3 is part 2 of their new Z modular layout.
They also offer track plans at www.maerklin-magazin.de and look under "Track Plan Archive." I hope you don't mind the plug for the magazine. I've subscribed and been an Insider member since the magazine offered an English edition.

Robert,

Yes, I am a long time Marklin club member. My membership started back in the 'Hot Tracks' days of Marklin Inc. That was actually where my first article was published.

I have not received a Insider mailing in some time. When was the last time you received one?

I received Issue #3 last week. I see by their website that issue #4 has been released, but I probably wont receive it until September. Since you have been a member since the
"Days of Dirt" you probably have the 5, 10, & 15 year gifts.
