Making a beginning! was created by TailUK
My first Z gauge kit arrived today, a Santa Fe Geep 9, some freight cars (Small, ain't they!) and 48 feet of track.

I going to work on the base boards tomorrow in my lunch hour. I had some 2'x 4' frames already made up for an abandoned project so I'll take a 6" slice off one and graft it on to another (or maybe 2 3" slices) Quite excited about laying track again.

I'll start posting pics soon.

I returned to work this week after several weeks on the sick list. I was dismayed to find that my Z gauge layout, which I had called "Bowline Pass" had suffered a fatal accident. While the lads were moving some heavy equipment into storage the layout was crushed and written off. So it's back to square one!
I managed to salvage 7 out of the 10 lengths of flexi track that had been already laid, so not a complete diaster.
I've idea for a new layout which will fold up. Anyone have any experience with this kind of set up?

John, Well, this is disturbing news. On the other hand you learned some things on the first layout and you can incorporate that knowledge into an improved new layout. Be more careful this time around. Cheers, Jim CCRR:)

John, re the folding up idea, Model Railroader magazine published a Z scale fold-up plan by John Armstrong many years ago. They republished the plan in a book called "50 Top Notch Plans" (or something like that) about 15 years ago. You might be able to get the booklet from them, or maybe even on Amazon or another online source.
