The Official Z PBL Challenge Thread

The Official Z PBL (Peanut Butter Lid) Challenge RuleZ:

Q. Who can enter the Z PBL Challenge?
A. Anyone and everyone, any age, any gender, from any country, speaking any language, wearing any colour of socks or no socks at all.

Q. What size does my PBL (Peanut Butter Lid) need to be?
A. The size of your Z PBL diorama has to be 3 1/2" (9 cm) plus or minus 1/4" (.5 cm).

Q. Do I have to use an actual peanut butter lid to participate in the Z PBL Challenge?
A. No, you do not have to use an actual peanut butter or other lid as long as the base of your diorama is 3 1/2" (9 cm) plus or minus 1/4" (.5 cm).

Q. Do I have to have an operating train on my diorama?
A. No, you don't have to have an operating train or any locomotives or cars. The only requirement is that your Z PBL diorama be in Z scale.

Q. When does the Z PBL Challenge begin?
A. The Z PBL Challenge begins now!

Q. When does the Z PBL Challenge end?
A. The Z PBL Challenge is an ongoing project open forever to encourage modelers of all abilities to take the challenge.

Q. What do I have to do to enter the Z PBL Challenge?
A. You have to submit up to four (4) photos of your Z PBL Challenge diorama in the Z PBL Challenge Photo Gallery.

Q. What are there prizes for the best Z Scale PBL dioramas?
A. There are no prizes or winners or losers in the Z PBL Challenge, though you will gain fame and glory, and possibly the adoration of small furry animals, for entering.

I've created a thread on Trainboard.com as per Fred's suggestion. Great idea, Fred

I haven't quite started my Z PBL Challenge diorama yet, but I have chosen my base. It's a 3 1/2" diameter glass butter dish with a glass top, though the top is not included in the photo. The butter dish is shown on the right and the regulation sized PBL is on the left....



Because I haven't had a place to delve into Canadian Z scale themes, I'm going to use the Z PBL Challenge to go completely Canadian I have plenty of ideas, though nothing has solidified into any action yet. I've been out on local photographic scouting expeditions, but it's still pretty cold up here to be very comfortable out and about with a camera and tripod.

Our local newspaper ran a story a couple of weeks ago about the aerial photography an Edmonton company did in the 1950s throughout Western Canada. The story featured ten photos of old farmsteads and businesses from that era. It was great to see my heritage from the air in so many nostalgic photos. My grandmother still has the photo of her old farmstead in her retirement home residence that was shot by this company. Here's an example of the photos they took in the old days. Here is their website if you want more information, though there aren't very many old photos to see, I'm afraid. I'm keeping the newspaper feature in case I go down that road, but I do have other ideas that I'm hoping to pursue.

I hope everyone who's interested in the Z PBL Challenge have great ideas that might not normally find their way into a layout. Or maybe you have an idea you need to try out BEFORE you get to your layout stage. Whichever way you go, just go for it

Okay, Beverley and Fred, I'll try and give this a go. I'm not sure though that the link to the other challenge was inspirational or intimidational. They got mad skillz!

Considering we have until June, 30th, I'll have to try to come up with an idea. Is there any restrictions to the size so long as the base fits into the lid or must it remain within the edges of the lid?

Well, the base has to be a diameter of 3 1/2" plus or minus 1/4". I guess if you have diorama items that go over the edge of that diameter, it should be okay. I'm going by the entrants in the original PBL Challenge , so whatever they did in that Challenge, we should be able to do in ours, as long as the scale in the Z PBL Challenge is Z. Does that answer your question?

Beverly- I posted over at the ZFE board. Perhaps some of the miracle workers will attend with a entrance too...

I started my project yesterday and the granddaughter enjoyed her peanut butter cookies. Well it's a start, need that lid!

We'd be happy to chip in an item for a prize, if several put something in we could go for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Grand Prize. Maybe awards for categories? Fred, we gotta have you in the running for the "Peanut Gallery" prize! No allergies can stop you!
