Garth- this would be good for inner city subways and elevated systems as well. It must gain it's maximum angle in a series of graduated tracks. How many to a full half circle--or up and down--

Fred I do not see a graduated entrance to the 5.5 degree super elevation. the track come in packs of 6 and 30 degree arc, so 6 Pieces is 180 degrees, so 12 for a full circle. the only thing I can say is the track is flexible enough for it to be pinned down so if you don't pin down the end of the junction end of the regular flat piece of track leading into the super elevation that would be the length of your transition piece. so a 30 degree arc or a 45 degree arc if curved and 55, 110, or 220 mm if straight.

In N scale Tomix and Kato provide a transition piece which is a 30 degree arc of curved track going from flat to enter into super elevation. I do not see any mention of this in the Rokuhan video.

Neat product. I'm anxious to see it in a larger radius track. Looking at the product, it appears that the superelevation is only about 30 mils. I would think that that one could use a standard track for lead-in of some minimum length.

This is great news for those "high speed train" runners. I worked on the Bay Area BART system back in the 70s and "super-elevation" is used everywhere, especially for high speed trains.

Reynard,
Not just "high speed", many of the "classic" routes just look wrong without superelevation. I suspect you know this example: the curve leading into the WP Greenville bridge. Looks totally wrong without the engine leaning into the bridge. Of course that's broad curve hence my interest in superelevation on larger radii.

Yes, many of the O scale and HO scale model railroaders going all the back to 1940s discussed "super-elevation" for their layouts. Back then these guys even built a lot of their own track & ties. But needing "super-e" also depends on the uses planned along the track for different types of railways. Definitely most passenger and commuter trains must have this feature. Look what happened in Spain this last Summer when an engineer outran or ignored the signal warnings for a slower speed around a sharp curve. Many died, he survived. I think he's in jail now...

Will wood ties be available too? A transition track would be good too.

There will be no transition track. According to Rokuhan, it is not needed. You can shim the flat track if desired. Wood ties are available as well as Concrete in both 195 and 220 Radius. These will be released on the 18th of this month in Japan with the rest of the world to follow soon.

Correct there is no transition track. I want to test it to see how well it works without a transition piece. A little shimming may be necessary.

We actually have the track now in stock. We are just waiting on pricing from Rokuhan. Once we have it, we will put it up for sale on our track store. Looking a the track, it is pretty neat. I can't wait to try it out.

We also received the EF66s. They look nice! Again, we are just waiting on pricing...

If you use a kork bed for the track it is easy to get transition track easy. Just place a little rubber band on the needed side and you will get good results. galerie.tt-pics.de/data/media/242/KURVEN1.jpg

Yes super elevation will be available in both tie types wooden and precast concrete.

super elevation on cape gauge track (42 inch or 3 ft 6 in) is what allowed New Zealand, South Africa, and Japan to move into 110 kph or 70 mph speed passenger trains on cape gauge track, or narrow gauge track. I love watching video of the super Hitachi rolling into the curves in Japan.

Yeah, an extra $5.40 per six pack is pricey no matter how many companies are making it.

Guess I will be scaling back my track replacement plans.
