if you were modelling particular railroad in particular location you would do your research and follow full size pratice closely (and it varies - there is no one rule for all), but since you are just doing fantasy thingy

This seller has advertised again, but this time the item is described as "turn track merklin z". Maybe someone sent him a message or maybe he's a member of this forum!

I wrote to him and jokingly told him I was looking for a right turn piece of track.
He wrote back that it was a piece left over from his grandmother?
Here is his quote..... "not sure i just put that because that's what it looked like. left over track grandmother had."

In my travels in eBay, I've found that some sellers buy stuff at local estate sales, inherit stuff, or sell things for friends/family - and they most often don't know anything about what they're selling. eBay is truly a buyer beware place. In this instance of the left turn track ( !!!), if you ask any questions about the condition of the track, the seller couldn't tell you anything useful about that either. Buyer beware!
